| How the System Works: From the Projection Booth to the Internet |
- The TRAKSTAR TVS © encoder is integrated into the audio play-out system in the projection booth. The system can be configured to deal with the various kinds of inputs found in theater audio chains of various vintages, analog or digital.
- The TRAKSTAR TVS © encoder additionally contains a decoder for reading the watermark containing the film identifier from the audio off the incoming print or digital cinema file.
- The encoder adds the film identifier to the watermark which is then “broadcast” into the theater with the addition of the theater, screen, time and date information.
- This information is added to all of the audio channels (as many as required).
- This information is simultaneously decoded at the encoder-level (in the projection booth) and is then communicated across the network to "Central".
- The PirateEye™ unit includes an illuminator, an IR camera, and a microphone for capturing the TRAKSTAR TVS © watermark.
- The PirateEye™ device processes images of each section of the theater to identify and locate the covert presence of camcorders.
- The TRAKSTAR TVS © microphone within the PirateEye™ unit captures the TRAKSTAR TVS © watermark and logs the time stamp.
- All data is communicated to "Central".

| How Audio Watermarking and Camcorder Detection Work Together to Secure Against Attack |
- The system operates on two seperate vectors to maximize security. A “global” attack against the TRAKSTAR - PirateEye™ integrated solution would necessitate interference with both the TRAKSTAR TVS © encoder in the projection booth and the PirateEye™ unit mounted in the theater. In such an event, any loss of network communications with either or both of the devices immediately triggers an alert which results in the same outcome as the discovery of a covert camcorder in the theater: A call to Security!
- If the TRAKSTAR TVS © encoder in the projection booth is tampered with or loses power, "Central" is alerted at the point network communications are lost. The TRAKSTAR TVS © microphone and on-board decoder in the PirateEye™ unit will alert "Central" to the absence of the complete watermark package.
- If the illuminator and/or the camera section of the PirateEye™ unit is damaged or malfunctioning, the TRAKSTAR TVS © microphone and on-board decoder alert "Central" that a film is playing and that that film carries the watermark. An alert is also sent by the PirateEye™ imaging software when it notes that it is not receiving an IR image from the IR camera.
- If the entire PirateEye™ unit loses power, "Central" will be alerted when:
- Network communications are lost.
- A film being played passes audio through the TRAKSTAR TVS © encoder in the projection booth. This device is in active contact with "Central" informing it that an exhibition is taking place.
